Boilers on the Playoff Bubble
The Boilermakers look to make a comeback after three consecutive losses.
September 20, 2017
This past Friday, the BBCHS Boilermakers lost another close game against the Andrew Thunderbolts at home (28-25). The 1-3 Boilers are now in the playoff bubble and cannot afford to lose more than 1 game the rest of the season if they wish to keep their playoff hopes alive.
The struggle all season for the Boilermakers has been to win tight games. They have lost the last three by a total of 13 points (LWW-7Pts, Kankakee-3Pts, Andrew-3Pts). In all three games the Boilers had the last possession of the ball but, could not capitalize and win the game.
After another heartbreaking defeat against Andrew on Homecoming, Coach Mike Kohl told his team, “We can’t hang our heads on this loss, when we’re defeated we have to stay hungry”. If the Boilermakers hope to make the playoffs they have to win four out of their next five games, there is little to no room for error now.
A tough road lies ahead of the Boilermakers, they won’t see their home turf for three weeks as they get into their toughest part of the schedule. This Friday, they play the Bolingbrook Raiders (3-1), who are looking for revenge after last season’s 22-21 thriller as quarterback Morion Burtis scored the late game winning two-point conversion to knock the Raiders out of the playoff contention.
The Raiders are going to need no motivation to come to play Friday night however, especially after coming off of their first loss of the season to their rivals, the Homewood Flossmoor (4-0), after a 42-28 game last Friday. The question is, how will the Boilermakers’ three straight consecutive losses affect their play? We will see how everything pans out Friday night as their backs are pinned against the wall.
